Coaches Clipboard
The real test of an idea isn't whether it's true but whether it's useful.
Our “Coaches Clipboard” is a collection of pertinent phrases, knowledge and wisdom. Shared every now and then on a Sunday. It’s our "thinking menu" with some bits and pieces we came across…
#sharetheknowledge 🙂
Read. Enjoy. Think. Share.
Danny Kerry: "The greatest mental challenge I come across with young players is them valuing defense. The skill of defense is as intricate and beautiful as the tricky stuff we see in possession."
Adam Commens: "Top teams consistently perform under pressure because they prepare for it. It’s not just talent—it’s about creating environments where players thrive in critical moments."
Shane McLeod: "The ability to win the ball is underrated. Tackle well, mark well, and work hard to regain possession—it’s the foundation of great pressing."
Kwan Browne: "The sideline is your best defender. Force them there, limit their options, and you’ve already won half the battle."
Ben Bishop: "Hockey is a game of 97% off-ball movement. If you’re only coaching what happens on the ball, you’re missing the majority of the game."
The real test of an idea isn't whether it's true but whether it's useful.
You can learn great things from your mistakes when you aren't busy denying them.
Instead of trying to change everything at once, start small. Focus on manageable steps you can take day by day.
Make others feel seen, heard and valued.
Stop micromanaging. If you don't trust your team, why should they trust you?
Hope you enjoyed these… happy coaching!
